There are a lot of ways to say hole centers. You can say hole-to-hole center, hole-to-hole length, length of holes, center-to-center holes but they all mean the same thing! The distance between the center of the first hole to the center of the second hole on your handle.
Replacing Hardware or Installing New
If you are replacing old hardware, we highly recommend using the same holes. Otherwise you have to do some patchwork and painting which is unnecessary. If you are starting from scratch, then you have a lot more freedom. If you are unsure of what size handle or knob to get, refer to our blog "What Size Knob or Pull Should I Get"
How to Measure Distance Between Holes

- Remove existing handle pull from the drawer or cupboard door.
- You may either measure the holes from the hardware itself or the drawer/door or both. Refer to pictures above.
- Measure in both inches and millimeters. Millimeters are more accurate as most hole center measurements are not exact when it comes to inches. For example, if you measure 5" hole centers, it is actually 5-1/16" or 128mm. Same with 6-1/4" which is actually 6-3/16".
Once you have determined your hole centers you can start shopping for what hardware is best for you!!
Check out our selection of different sizes by clicking a link below. We round to the nearest 1/4 fraction for easier filtering but still have the exact millimeters listed.
3-3/4" (96mm) center to center
6-1/4" (160mm) center to center
7-1/2" (192mm) center to center
8-3/4" (224mm) center to center
12-1/2" (320mm) center to center
